The Australasian Juniors is a two-day online World Schools tournament for younger debaters, run by EduDrift on Zoom and Slack.

The Australasian Juniors is a two-day online World Schools tournament for younger debaters, run by EduDrift on Zoom and Slack. Five preliminary rounds on the Saturday, then four elimination rounds on the Sunday, with a mix of prepared, impromptu and silent-prep rounds. Every student receives a certificate, a performance star chart and written feedback from the judging panel.

Rounds run on Singapore time from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM each day. For families in Dubai that is 4:00 AM to 2:30 PM; for US families it is overnight, so this tournament suits our Asia and Gulf students best. The schedule on this page shows your own time zone.

Does my child need a judge or a coach on the day?

No. EduDrift provides the judges. Our coach briefs the team before each day and is reachable throughout.

How experienced should a student be?

It is a junior tournament for ages 7 to 14. A student who has finished a foundation course, or one term of classes, is ready. Four hours of prep with a coach are included.

Preparing for the tournament

Students entering their first judged rounds usually get the most out of a short run of coached practice first. The Foundation class covers the format from scratch, the Competition Team trains year-round, and the motion bank has thousands of real motions to practise on.
