Bluebonnet World Schools International 2027

A three-day, all-impromptu World Schools tournament near Houston built for international teams, with clinics led by Team Texas and a cultural night.

The Bluebonnet World Schools International Debate Tournament runs in person at Grand Oaks High School in Spring, Texas, just north of Houston, from Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 April 2027. Every round is impromptu with an hour of preparation, five preliminary rounds break to quarterfinals, and the days are built around clinics led by Team Texas debaters and an international chief adjudicator, plus a Texas cultural night with a team t-shirt exchange.

Two divisions: the Championship at USD 300 per team (plus USD 150 if a team brings no qualified judge) and Novice at USD 250, capped at 100 teams overall. Registration closes on 2 April 2027. Our price covers the entry, the judge fee and the coaching; flights and hotels are booked by families, and we can suggest a hotel block.

Is it worth the trip?

For a team that wants an in-person World Schools weekend against American and international schools without a TOC qualification, yes. It is the only in-person event we list in North America.

Championship or Novice?

Championship for Competition Team students; Novice for students in their first year of World Schools.

Preparing for the tournament

Students entering their first judged rounds usually get the most out of a short run of coached practice first. The Foundation class covers the format from scratch, the Competition Team trains year-round, and the motion bank has thousands of real motions to practise on.
