The Bristol Schools Debating Championships is a two-day online tournament in a modified World Schools format for senior students, run by EduDrift on Zoom and Slack.

The Bristol Schools Debating Championships is a two-day online tournament in a modified World Schools format for senior students, run by EduDrift on Zoom and Slack. Five preliminary rounds on the first day, then two elimination rounds and a grand final on the second. Participation and achievement certificates carry the Bristol emblem, and every student gets a commendation letter and written feedback from the international judging panel.

Rounds run on Singapore time from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM each day, which is 4:00 AM to 2:30 PM in Dubai. Motions are released per round, so most of the debating is impromptu; our four prep hours focus on case-building under time pressure.

Which students is this for?

Ages 13 to 18. It suits students in the Competition Team or Debate Academy who have done at least one tournament, though a well-prepared first-timer can enter.

Is a judge required from us?

No. EduDrift provides the judges, which is why this tournament is priced below the ones where we must send a judge.

Preparing for the tournament

Students entering their first judged rounds usually get the most out of a short run of coached practice first. The Foundation class covers the format from scratch, the Competition Team trains year-round, and the motion bank has thousands of real motions to practise on.
