In New Zealand, University Entrance (UE) is the minimum grade required for admission to university and does not change year on year. UE allows students entry into any university course and there is no limit on the amount of spaces offered. Entrance into specialised courses with limited spaces (e.g. medicine, law, engineering majors) is determined by results in your first year at university (e.g. first-year Health Sciences papers for entry into Medicine). If you do not get into the specialised course you apply for, the first-year papers will be cross-credited to another relevant degree (e.g. Bachelor of Health Sciences).

There are two systems for corporate sponsorship of research in universities. Some people are concerned that this increase in AI usage may limit the amount that students are actually learning, whilst others believe that AI will make teaching easier and allow students to ask more questions and get help with their studies even when their teachers aren't around.

Ethnic integration policies are government actions designed to reduce physical and geographical separation between ethnic groups after a conflict. Examples include: Ethnic quotas in public schools, housing, or government jobs to ensure mixed representation. Integrating or breaking up ethnic enclaves, so communities are not divided by group identity. Mixed housing programs and shared public services to increase daily interaction. Representation rules so decision-making bodies include multiple ethnic groups. Such policies are used in countries recovering from civil wars, ethnic violence, or long periods of segregation.

Throughout the academic year, students earn or lose House Points based on their behaviour, academic performance, and conduct. Professors and staff award or deduct points at their discretion. Points can be given for acts such as answering questions correctly, showing bravery, or exemplary performance. Points can be deducted for rule-breaking, poor behaviour, or failure to follow instructions. At the end of the year, the House with the highest number of points is awarded the House Cup, a prestigious honour that fosters competition between Houses.

Heroic national myths are simplified, celebratory stories taught as part of national history that present the nation's founders, leaders, or defining events as uniquely virtuous or destined for greatness, while downplaying wrongdoing, complexity, or contested perspectives. Ie, Malaysia/Singapore founding-era development stories that compress leftist currents and minority grievances, Japan's minimisation of the Nanjing Massacre in certain textbooks and Russia's "Great Patriotic War" hagiography that downplays Stalinist repression.

In 'integrated religious education', all students are taught material encompassing many major religions. In 'separated religious education', students study different religions in distinct classrooms (i.e. Catholic students attend Catholic class, Buddhist students attend Buddhist class, etc.).

A faith-based school is an educational institution that is affiliated with a particular religious tradition or denomination. These schools often prioritise the integration of religious teachings and values into their educational programs, and may have strong ties to religious communities whilst also teaching standard academic subjects in line with the national curricula. Most of these schools receive some public funding. For the avoidance of doubt, for the purposes of this debate, "faith-based schools" do NOT include extra- curricular religious classes (e.g. Sunday School).

Prescriptive approaches to language typically impose what is the "correct" way to use language, including but not limited to, grammar, syntax etc. Descriptive approaches to language aims to teach language through observing and describing how language can be used differently, across speakers and contexts and are more accepting of varieties eg. African American Vernacular English, Singlish etc.

Confucius Institutes (CIs) are educational partnerships between Chinese universities and universities abroad. CIs are funded and arranged by the Chinese Ministry of Education, with the stated aim of promoting Chinese language and culture, supporting international teaching of the Chinese language, and facilitating cultural exchanges. Recently there has been a trend of Western universities (e.g. in the US, Sweden, the Netherlands) closing the CIs on their campuses, citing concerns about potential political influence or limiting academic freedom.

"School choice" is the ideology that parents should have significant access to alternatives to public education for their children, such as private, selective or religious schools. Consequently, proponents of "school choice" support various schemes to support parents to send their children to non-government schools, such as government funding for private school, tax concessions for providing additional scholarships, and a relaxation of school district law.

Educational models present various forms of student motivation. Examples of internal motivation could be: creating more opportunities for students to learn autonomously, fostering a sense of curiosity towards learning, and/or being adaptable to individual strengths, weaknesses, passions and dislikes. Examples of external motivation can look like: placing universal standards on students (such as grades or exams), rewarding those who adhere to them and punishing those who don't.

Protest movements like the School Strike for Climate movement encourage primary and secondary school students not to attend school to protest issues in society.

Private education is any education which occurs outside of the public system, where education is funded collectively by taxpayer money and equally accessible to all.

Streaming children according to their abilities means grouping them into different classes or levels based on how well they perform in certain subjects, starting from a young age. For example, students who are strong in math might be placed in a more advanced math class, while those who need extra help could be in a different group where they can learn at a pace that suits them better.

In many countries, education around social inequality focuses on the history of oppression vulnerable groups have faced, for example, how women were granted the vote, how colonialism destroyed indigenous cultures, and how racial minorities were discriminated against by governments. For the purposes of this motion, the government would instead, for example, focus on teaching current census data to determine which groups are being oppressed, and teaching theory around how equality might be achieved in the future.

Performance-based pay is a form of compensation for teachers based on the performance of students in extracurricular (i.e. competitions) and curricular activities (i.e. performance on standardised tests)

The US Supreme Court recently ruled on a 6-3 majority that race based admissions in universities are unconstitutional on the grounds that it violates violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

Vernacular schools are educational institutions that use the native or local language of a particular region or community as the medium of instruction. The term "vernacular" refers to the language spoken by the people in their daily lives. In other words, instead of teaching in a more widely spoken or official language, vernacular schools teach in the local language. For example, vernacular schools in in Tanzania use Swahili, or vernacular schools in Malaysia and Singapore which use Tamil or Mandarin. Vernacular schools are often established to provide education to students who may not be proficient in the official language, to promote the use of local languages, as well as to preserve linguistic and cultural traditions.

In many Balkan countries that were under Ottoman rule from the 14th to the 19th century (e.g. Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, etc.), the history curriculum focuses heavily on the national struggle against the Ottoman Empire as well as the crimes of the Ottomans against the local population (e.g. forcibly taking children to join the Janissary military corps, forcible conversions from Orthodox Christianity to Islam, murder and torture of local population etc.). In these countries, the Ottoman Empire is viewed as a colonizer, and those who led national uprisings fighting for independence are revered as national heroes.

An 'open-book examination' is an assessment method designed to allow students to refer to approved material during the examination. This includes, but are not limited to, class handouts, written notes, summaries, or textbooks while answering questions under controlled conditions.

For the purposes of this debate, authority can have a range of different meanings, including the knowledge you learn, teachers at school, the police and government in everyday life, and parents within families. Questioning that authority can involve a wide variety of different things, whether it be through words (verbal), actions, or just the attitude with which you treat that authority. Opening Government is allowed to set the exact kinds of policy they might support as to how schools may encourage the questioning of authority (though they cannot mandate that everyone will necessarily listen!)

In England, "academisation" of schools occurs when a school is removed from the control of local authorities. Academies are self-governing, choose their own staff and curriculum and are frequenty funded by private sponsors. This is as opposed to state schools which are funded by the government and have their syllabus decided centrally.

Neurodiversity refers to variation in the human brain regarding sociability, learning, attention, mood, and other mental functions in a non-pathological sense. It emerged as a challenge to prevailing views that certain things currently classified as neurodevelopmental disorders are inherently pathological and instead, adopts the social model of disability, in which societal barriers are the main contributing factor that disables people.

A well-run state facility refers to a facility that will provide children with a standard quality of living, ensuring they have food, water, education, and anything else necessary for survival.

The overemployment movement is a group of remote working professionals who over the last couple of years have transitioned to working multiple full time remote jobs simultaneously. They do this by working to meet the minimum requirements of each job and utilising the flexible nature of remote working combined with the large amounts of idle time they were observing in their chosen careers. They claim that whilst working in this way gives up their chance at excelling in one career, it enables them to quickly obtain higher compensation for their work since they are able to obtain multiple salaries.

Pedagogy can be understood as the method and practice of teaching or delivering content to learners. Pedagogy includes two branches: Cognitivism and Constructivism. Cognitivism places students as empty vessels to be filled by teachers, and knowledge is arranged in a manner that is organised and easy to comprehend for students.There is an emphasis on structuring information to facilitate mental processing for example, student group work, organising knowledge through presentations, demonstrations, and illustrative examples. On the other hand, in a constructivist classroom, both teacher and students think of knowledge as a dynamic view of the world we live in. Students build personal interpretations of the world based on individual experiences and interactions, along with teachers as a part of the activity. Thus, knowledge is constantly open to change; there is not an objective reality that students strive to know. In order to understand the learning which has taken place within an individual, the actual experience must be examined by the student

For-profit education academies teach pre-university curricular during non-school hours for a profit. These include but are not limited to private after school tutoring, admissions coaching, online tutoring and enrichment/extension classes. These do not include international and private schools.

A number of universities aim to serve those from a protected class. For example, Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) are primarily Black universities in the US, Tribal Colleges aim to serve Native Americans, and the Seven Sisters liberal arts colleges admit only women. These universities are often generally prestigious, but are ranked lower than top universities such as the Ivy League.

In a number of countries (eg. South Africa) "lower grade math" is a simplified mathematics curriculum that students in public high schools can opt into. Students struggling with math or schooling in general are typically encouraged to take lower grade math. An A in lower grade math usually counts for half as many points as an A in "standard math" using an admission points system for universities. As a result, students who take lower grade math are unlikely to be accepted into many university programs (such as STEM, law and medicine)

You are a homosexual person in 2021. An angel offers you a cup of milktea that will turn majority into homosexual overnight. Everyone will have their previous memories, experience, social surroundings and objects etc. altered accordingly. In short, people will indeed believe that they live in a society where homosexual relationship is the predominant form of relationship and hetreosexual is the minority. There is currently a trend where parents send their children overseas for high school, and more commonly, university. For example, a child from China may attend university in the US. Usually, this involves children travelling from less developed countries to more developed countries.

Bonded scholarship programmes in places like Singapore and Malaysia facilitate the ability of students to study abroad at elite universities. These programs are paid for by the state in return for the student being "bonded" to work for the state for a given period of time (3, 5, 10 years). Students may be bonded to specific departments or just bonded in general. It is possible for students to occasionally default on their bond and pay back the cost of education at a large premium.

Pokémon are creatures with specialized abilities and are highly sentient. In the world of Pokémon, many young trainers strive to become the Pokémon Champion through competing in battles and outclassing their opposition. In Pokémon battles, they are ordered to attack each other until one Pokémon faints. There are also other paths to being a trainer that are less well-known, less well paid, and less lucrative (becoming a chef or being a Pokémon Beauty Contest Champion).

For the purposes of this debate reincaraction is real. It happens in human form only, in a random (not karmic) way, and doesn't have to follow immediately after death. This is known to all and considered an undisputable fact. Humans have inherent traits that consist of their core personality and preferences. These get transferred through reincarnations and do not change. People are a combination of their inherent traits and their environment.

Private coaches are employed by families and offer personalized advice to help the students in selecting and applying for colleges. They can also help guide in students' decision-making on extracurricular activities to join, curriculum/subjects to take, and college essay topics, among others. CET review centers also offer scholarship slots to deserving students for the review classes.

X (she/her) is in grade 12 of high school. In school, X has always been an average student, but she is incredibly passionate and talented at history. X's mother raises her as a single mom, and had to work three jobs to provide for her, forcing her to give up her dream of going to a dance school. Now, as X is nearing graduation, her mother wants her to work to help pay off loans and not go to university, at least for a few years. X had reluctantly agreed, but she applied to universities anyway, without informing her mother. X got accepted in her dream school with a need-based scholarship that covers most of the school fees, and now, she is rethinking her mother's wish.

For the purpose of this debate, 'language-generating AI' is AI that can generate fluent streams of text after processing billions of words from sources such as books, articles and websites. Language-generating AI could conceivably have the potential to write press releases, stories, debate speeches, guitar tabs, scientific hypotheses, technical manuals, code, and more. In limited contexts, the latest versions of the advanced language generating technology were found to be indistinguishable from human writing, however the technology as a whole is still error-prone. Language-generating AI already has commercial & research applications by large organizations, and the technology is expected to rapidly develop in versatility & scale in the near future.

The 'Teach For' model involves recruiting high-performing graduates (not necessarily with teaching degrees) to teach at primary/secondary schools in traditionally low socio economic areas, often where teachers are difficult to recruit. Graduates undergo a short, intensive training program prior to teaching, and generally stay for 1-2 years before moving onto another industry.
